About Us

The Harrow School of Ballet offers quality ballet training to the local community, ensuring that every child is nurtured to achieve their very best. Uniting a team of highly trained professional dancers and pianists, every class incorporates technique, creativity, imagination, and musicality.

Founder and Director Maddy Wynne-Jones ISTD DDI Cecchetti Classical Ballet, along with the other teaching staff, have extensive experience in teaching all ages in ballet, contemporary dance, choreography, and drama. The teachers take great pride in placing an emphasis on the enjoyment of movement and musicality, and believes adamantly in cultivating each dancer's individual creativity whilst developing technical excellence.

We teach ballet to the Cecchetti syllabus (this is one of the main forms of ballet, like RAD / Classical and French). The Cecchetti method, developed by Enrico Cecchetti in the 19th Century, emphasizes clear technique and is known for its clean lines, and balanced movements.

Maddy Wynne-Jones

ISTD DDI Cecchetti Classical Ballet — Principal and Senior Teacher

Maddy trained vocationally in Ottawa, Canada under the direction of Celia Franca CC OOnt, and was a graduate of the Arts Umbrella and Ballet BC Professional Training Programme in Vancouver, Canada. She worked as a professional dancer and choreographer internationally, before transitioning to mentoring and teaching. She was senior teacher and head of the Youth Dance Company at Highgate Ballet School and taught for many years at Central School of Ballet in London. She has trained dancers from their first steps to the launch of their professional career, with students now dancing as soloists and principals for companies around the world such as Scottish Ballet Theatre, Ajkun Ballet (New York), Grand Kiev Ballet, Sibiu Ballet Company and many others. Maddy founded the Village School Ballet and is principal and senior teacher of The Harrow School of Ballet, Hendon and Mill Hill Ballet School and the Milton Keynes School of Ballet.

Maddy is a registered teacher with ISTD, holds an enhanced DBS, is first aid trained and attends regular safeguarding and Prevent training.

​

The Village School Ballet is an Approved Arts Award Centre, and registered LAMDA Centre. Our students obtain qualifications in Explore, Bronze and Silver Arts Award through Trinity College and Cecchetti Graded and Vocational Examinations through the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing, as well as LAMDA Performance and Communications Graded Exams.

  • We provide every dancer with a termly report, written by their teacher. The termly reports are an opportunity for parents and carers to understand what their child has been working on in ballet class over the term, what they have achieved, and what they can work on in the term to come. It allows parents and carers to track their child’s progress, and inspire the children to continue to achieve their goals

  • We put an emphasis on both technique and creativity, and work towards ballet exams, offering opportunities for progression for our young dancers.
